Edson dreams of becoming a financial accountant. This is partly in memory of his dad, who died while the family was living in Zimbabwe with his accountancy studies partially complete. More importantly though, Edson was one of those kids who has always loved figures and doing well at maths came naturally.
While South Africas youth is displaying a growing appetite for tertiary education, the sad
reality is that universities simply aren’t able to accommodate the large number of students
currently looking to further their education.
While South Africa’s youth are desperate for learning and for career opportunities, employers are bemoaning the shortage of skilled labour. The reality is that about three million people between the ages of 18 and 24 are not accommodated in the education and training system or in the labour market. This is an appalling waste of human potential…
